There are a half dozen or so manufacturers of balers that are comparable and that will work for stores, distribution centers, etc. The 2 most common sizes for down stroke balers - differing only in horsepower and bale length - are 48" long or 60" long. The cost for either size is between $7,500 and $9,000, depending on freight, sales tax, installation, etc. We recommend 60” at 10 horsepower wherever possible because the bale will weigh approx. 1,000 lbs. and is more economical to ship. Many grocery stores have 48" balers because they were worried about space but a 60" baler is nearly the same size in every dimension except width. Most balers can run on either 240 volts or 480 volts and all are 3-phase. We can order 208 volt units also. We always have the customer be responsible for electricity service and permits, if any. The distributor we buy balers from (JM Equipment Co. 916-372-0707) provides financing via a lease arrangement, typically with a $1.00 buy-out at the end. A 4-year term will have a monthly payment of about $200/month or 3 years at about $225/month. It takes an average person about 10 minutes to tie the bale with wire, eject the bale, move it aside, close the door, and start on the next bale. We sell baling wire at our cost of $32.50 per bundle of 250 strands. Each 60" bale requires 5 strands. |
